How to Map Out Your Zazzle Sale Locations Using Google Map Engine

This tutorial shows a cool way to use Google Map Engine to generate an interactive map (like the one below) that shows where you have sold products!

Just thought of this and I'm really excited to share it! It's pretty awesome to be able to see where your designs have gone.

The Steps:

First you will need to download your sales information on the CSV that Zazzle provides.

Do so by going to Earnings > Royalty History >  Export to CSV (Found at the bottom of the table)

Next you will split column I (titled "Shipped To") in order to separate the location values. To do this:
  • Go to Data > Text to Columns
  • Select "delimited" and press "Next."
  • Select "other" and type "-" (a dash). Press "Next."
  • Select where you want  the new column to be placed ("destination"). Using cell R1 works just fine, but it doesn't really matter.
  • Press "Finish"!
Now you should have 2 new columns (one with a name, one with a location). *IMPORTANT: Add a title to the second column (it doesn't matter what) so the map builder can recognize it.*

At this point I would copy and paste and save the 2 new columns into a new workbook. This will make it easier to create the map!

Now for the fun part!
Go to Google Maps Engine. Press "Create New Map."

Under "Untitled Layer," press "Import." Upload your newly saved workbook with the 2 columns.

Select the column that you named (the bottom option) to position your placemarks. Press "Next."

Select either column to label the placemarks. Press "Finish."

That's about it! From here you can customize and filter different aspects of the map. Play around and see what you can discover!

Notes:
  • Map Engine Light will only allow you to import 100 rows at a time. If you are fortunate enough to have over 100 rows, then you will have to import each 100 rows into different layers (or update to Map Engine Pro).
  • If you are notified with an error message saying that one of the rows cannot be read, click the "data" button and scroll to the red marked row. The Maps Engine probably just didn't recognize the abbreviation, so just re-spell it out fully!
